Do you dare?

I recently purchased a book called The Love Dare. The movie Fireproof (that Kirby and I went to see a few weeks ago) was based on a couple's experience with this book.

"This 40-Day journey equips you to melt hardened, separated hearts into an enduring love that can withstand the flames of fear, pride and temptation. The Love Dare book will help you reinforce and enrich your marriage, earn back a love you thought was lost..." It also intends to bring you closer to God (which, honestly, I struggle with).

While Kirby and I are in a much better place than we were 6 months ago, it certainly couldn't hurt to strengthen it. And, as I mentioned, I struggle with my relationship with God, so what have I got to lose?

So I wonder, have any of you taken The Love Dare? Are you willing to challenge yourself to a 40 day journey to strengthen your relationships? Do you dare hop aboard my "love train"?

You can read a bit more about The Love Dare HERE.

I'm going to have to check this out. My husband is an atheist while I am a Christian. It is very frustrating. I guess, I really though I would have him believing by now.

But he is a good person, which is alot more than I could say for my last one.

I'd be willing to read this book and see what it has to say, although I REALLY feel like there is almost nothing wrong with my relationship (other than him breaking his promise to do dishes throughout the month of January... hello, you haven't done them in 10 days and yes I've counted and no I'm not cooking anything until I don't have to wash dishes to do it myself).

I have a hard time with 'self-improvement' books in general, but ones that base themselves on religious affiliation in particular. I'm fine with spiritualism, I can read something when it's like "I'm going to call this force in the universe 'God' but I understand you may have a different idea" -- but I get really annoyed when it's all Judeo-Christian psychobabble. How is The Love Dare in that regard?

Funny, I am just at your blog checking up on your 37th week :)

So, I REALLY struggle with religion in general. I love spirituality, I love that I can have my OWN God and not YOUR idea of a God. I love that MY God is mine and all mine...and the constant "My savior, Jesus Christ" - irritates the ever living HELL out of me (I don't know why, something I have to work on).

Having said all that, The Love Dare quotes Scripture. There IS a lot of God talk. I, personally, am doing my best to think of the God they are referring to as the God that I choose to pray to (who is not a Christian God or a Muslim God or a Catholic God...he's all mine).

Am I making sense to you???

I struggle with "self improvement" stuff as well. The reason I chose to do this is not for self improvement but more for self awareness. The first "dare" was to say nothing negative to your spouse all day. I did well until he called me (at the time he was supposed to be home from work so I can go to work) and told me he had been pulled over 20 minutes away....which means I have to call my client and let them know I am going to be late....yada, yada, yada. I bit my tongue. It made me aware that I am easily frustrated by him for things that (mostly) are beyond his control.

And like I said in my post, what have I got to lose?

Sorry the response is so long winded...hope I got my point across :)

I just now read this long response... very eloquent :] It makes sense. I will put "The Love Date" on my list of books to read this year!
