As of tomorrow the kids are back at school! I can't say that I am not excited. It has been a long week.
Needless to say, I haven't had time to do much of anything, never mind blog.
We had a great week of fishing and playing and movies and Webkinz parties and ball games...

Happy Belated Earth Day
One day late, but nonetheless, Happy Earth Day!
We are not known for being "green". Yes, we recycle (we even use Freecycle - check it out at www.freecycle.org). I walk as often as I can through town rather than driving. We never throw anything away that someone else can use. We either donate, freecycle or drop it at the "swap shop" (a building at our "dump" that you can drop off things in good condition to be used again - people take what they want). We use the new CFL light bulbs in most of our lights. But, I wouldn't call us a green family.
Lastly, every year we pick up trash. Last year Zachary and I did an entire street and collected 11 trash bags full! The community clean up day has been postponed for another month due to snow but since yesterday was Earth Day we decided we should get out there and clean up anyway.
Somebody recently told me that they don't believe in global warming. I explained that Earth Day isn't about global warming. It is about respecting the planet that we were given to live on and respecting the resources that we are taking for granted. Who wants to live in the trash and polluted air? Global warming or not - it's just the right thing to do.
We have some great walking paths here in Wolfeboro. They run by all 3 of the major lakes here in town (Winnipesaukee, Wentworth and Crescent). They were once railroad tracks that people now use to walk, run and bike. They are beautiful and the boys and I love them.
Yesterday we decided to clean up a section of that path. Andrew being with us can make it hard to get out on a street (he's a runner with little understanding of safety). Zachary really thought that we needed to do more than that (in total it is probably about 1/4 mile). I had to explain that we would do more some other time.

So, we may not be the greenest family on the planet, but we do our part.

Poka' and Pizza
April vacation officially started Friday. We don't have a much planned but we will be taking it day by day and, I am sure, doing plenty. With a week of sunshine promised, I know we will have lots to do! Expect shorter, less frequent postings over the next few days...
Friday evening Kirby and I met my friend Josiah for dinner. He and a friend were meeting a group that evening to hike Tuckerman's the next day. We had a great dinner at The Pizza Barn in Ossipee (if you haven't been there, it is exactly what it sounds like, a barn where they serve pizza). The food was alright, a nice family atmosphere (although, "the family" stayed home) - the company was great. I love Josiah and don't get to see him nearly enough!
Saturday Kirby and I went out again to play some Hold 'em with my family. We brought Zachary with us as he has a tendency not to behave for Tom.
"Paatnaas" - for those that don't speak stupid, that's Partners.
It was a small game, only 7 of us, but the pot was a decent size. The game was over by 11pm (thankfully).

Amazing night!

Our Second Fundraiser
What a wonderful night! We had absolutely beautiful weather, a live broadcast and a ton of people!
We held our second fundraiser at Friendly's in Rochester NH. The staff was incredibly helpful and we were so happy to be there!
It is official, at every event we meet, at least, one more person or family that reminds us why it is so important to be doing what we are doing:
The little boy that signed "Thank You" to us, waved "goodbye" to his balloon and brought tears to many of our eyes.
The woman who couldn't afford a raffle ticket but donated $.25 to our cause because she has a friend with autism.
The woman who gave up her ice cream to buy more raffle tickets who told me that she would go without for the evening knowing she had done something for a worthy cause.
And more than that, the many families that we saw with autistic children who felt safe bringing their children out to dinner in a public place.
Those people and those families touched us more than any amount of money we could raise.
We thank all of you that joined us last night and made it such a success, if for nothing else but just being there.

It WAS an AMAZING night. I am so inspired to do more. I hope that some of you are able to join us for our next fundraiser in "Dovah" on April 24th. If not, we are considering making this a monthly event - a way for autistic families to get out and feel safe in a public place. Forget the money, that is all we want!
